He lied about his age and joined the Army in Montreal at age 16. He became a Corporal and served for 3 years with the West Nova Scotia Regiment, including 2 years in Italy where he was wounded. After the war, Raymond lived in Montreal, raised a son with his wife, Ada Jones, and worked for Molson Breweries and Shell Oil Refinery. He passed away in 1974 at age forty-eight. Raymond was awarded the War Medal 1939-45, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Bar, the Italy Star and the 1939-45 Star. Submitted by the Isle Madame Branch #150 of The Royal Canadian Legion. GRANT, Andrew Fidelis WWII Andrew was born in Monastery, NS. He enlisted in the Army and served overseas in the UK, Italy, Sicily, North Africa and Continental Europe. He received the Italy Star, the War Medal 1939-45, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the 1939-45 Star, the Defence Medal, and the France and Germany Star. On discharge, he returned home and married Norma with whom he raised a family. Andrew worked for Massey Ferguson as a civilian. He was a brother to Patrick (Korean War). Submitted by Tracadie & District. GRANT, John Patrick KOREA John was born in Monastery, to John Grant and Brigid Wallace, around 1922. He went to St. F. X. University but didn’t graduate. He married Peggy before the Korean War and they had three children. He enlisted and served in Korea. After the war, he and Peggy moved to Toronto, where several more children were born. He drove a city bus in Toronto. He had a brother, Andrew, who served in WWII. Submitted by Tracadie & District. GRANT, George Wesley SPECIAL DUTYAREA George was born in Middleton, NS on November 11, 1934. He joined the Army and served with No. 3 & 4 Canadian Guards, Royal Canadian Air Cadets and the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps with UNEF Egypt, UN Congo and UN Cyprus. He received the Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal, the UNEF Egypt Medal, UN Congo, UN Cyprus, Canadian Forces Decoration 1, 125 Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada Medal, Commissionaires Long Service Medal, US Navy, Unit Commendation, CFS Shelburne, NS.
