Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 85 LANDRY, Joseph Ernest WWI Joseph was born in Petit-de-Grat, NS on April 3, 1896. He joined the Army on May 30, 1918 and served with F Company, No. 1 Depot in Sydney, NS and with the Canadian Army Medical Corps in England and France. He was discharged on August 31, 1919 at the age of 23. He was awarded the Victory Medal, the British War Medal and the 1914-1918 Star. He married Lily Boudreau and they had a daughter and a son who served overseas in WWII. Joseph was postmaster in Petit-de-Grat from 1930 until his retirement in 1965 and was a Life Member of RCL Isle Madame Branch #150 before he died on March 23, 1994. Submitted by the Isle Madame Branch #150 of The Royal Canadian Legion. LANDRY, Michael Albanie PEACETIME Michael was born in Halifax, NS on July 8, 1943. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in Halifax in February 1963 and served in Canada, Germany and Egypt. He trained and served in QC and ON until 1974, in Germany until 1978 and retired in 1987 after 25 years of service. He was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration at 12 years and the Canadian Forces Decoration 1 at 22 years as well as the NATO Medal and the UN Medal for service in Egypt. Michael and his wife, Janet Poan, have 3 children and he has been a member of RCL Isle Madame Branch #150 for seven years. Submitted by the Isle Madame Branch #150 of The Royal Canadian Legion. LANDRY, Vander Aloysius WWII Vander was born in Petit-de-Grat, NS on November 7, 1919. He joined the Army on November 13, 1940 and served with the Princess Louise Fusiliers in Canada. He was medically discharged in 1944 but he re-enlisted only to be medically discharged again. He received the War Medal 1935-1945. After his release, he operated a taxi service in Halifax, NS then worked on lake boats in ON and on construction sites till he retired. He and his wife, Eleanor Poirier, raised 5 children. Vander was a Life Member of RCL Isle Madame Branch #150 before he died on June 12, 2005. Submitted by the Isle Madame Branch #150 of The Royal Canadian Legion. LANDRY, Sylvester Ambrose WWII Sylvester, son of Isadore Landry, was born in Afton, NS in 1918. He enlisted in the Army and served on the home front. He was killed in service in 1943 at the age of 25. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. He had a brother, Finley, also in WWII and is a brother to Leo Landry of Afton.
