WWI G.J. enlisted in August 1915 with the 64th Battalion, trained in Sussex then was stationed in Halifax until March 31, 1916. He then sailed for England and after training there, was transferred to the famous “Fighting 26th. He was wounded and shell shocked during the Battle of the Somme and was invalided to Canada. WWI W.W. enlisted on May 23, 1917 with the Canadian Forestry Corps. He went overseas on June 23, 1917 and served in France. Though only 17 years old, he tried seven times to enlist in the Canadian Forces only to be told each time that he was too young. Submitted by the Middleton Branch #001 of The Royal Canadian Legion. LOVETT, Charles William WWI Charles was killed on Easter Monday at the Battle of Vimy Ridge where so many brave Canadians fell. His father was killed at Halifax at the same time of the explosion on December 6, 1917. Charles had enlisted in the 85th Highlanders. Submitted by the Middleton Branch #001 of The Royal Canadian Legion. LOVETT, Arthur WWI Arthur enlisted for service in the Royal Artillery in October 1917 and went overseas on December 4. He took part in a number of the important and biggest battles. He had a narrow escape in one of these when a piece of shell hit his helmet. Four of his comrades were killed at this time.
