Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 97 LOVETT, James WWI James enlisted in the Royal Artillery in October 1917 and was stationed at the Citadel in Halifax on home defence. LOVETT, Merlin WWI Merlin, a native of St. John, NB, enlisted in the No. 8 Field Ambulance, Canadian Army Medical Corps in August 1915. He was wounded in April 1917 and was invalided to England. LUKE, George Edward WWI George enlisted in Halifax with the 40th Battalion in 1915 and trained at Aldershot and Valcartier, sailing to England from Quebec on a reinforcement draft to France in 1916. He took an active part in the strenuous fighting which followed. Shell shocked and his arm shattered by shrapnel on June 12, 1916, he was discharged from hospital in September and succeeded in getting back to the firing line by transferring to the 25th Battalion. He was promoted to Lance Corporal, Machine Gun Section and then to Corporal. He was taking a commission course in England when the Armistice was signed and came back to Canada as Cadet on February 1, 1919. Submitted by the Middleton Branch #001 of The Royal Canadian Legion. LOWE, Arthur E. WWI Arthur enlisted at 16 on November 4, 1914 with “A” Company, 25th Nova Scotia Battalion, sailing for England on May 20, 1915. After training in England, he crossed with his unit to France the following September and served for a time at the hazardous duty of battalion runner, going through the third Battle of Ypres and the Loos.
