Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 183 RILEY, Joseph Paul SPECIAL DUTYAREA & PEACETIME Joseph was born in Montreal, QC but grew up in Tracadie, NS. He joined the Army in Halifax in 1955 and was: posted to the 2nd Canadian Guards, serving in Germany and Cyprus; an instructor to the Canadian Guards in 1966 as M/Cpl.; with the 2nd Battalion in 1968 as a Sgt.; rebadged in 1970 to the Royal Canadian Regiment; promoted to Warrant Officer in 1974; instructed in Cornwallis, NS in 1975; promoted to Master W/O in 1977; posted to C.F.B. Borden in 1982. In 1983, Chief W/O was appointed Regimental Sergeant Major of the Royal Canadian Battle School at C.F.B. Petawawa then returned to the Battalion in 1985. He served with distinction during a peacekeeping tour in Cyprus in 1986. In July 1987, he was appointed Academy C.W.O. of the Canadian Forces Leadership Academy C.F.B., Camp Borden. Joseph retired from the Armed Forces in 1993 after 38 years of service. Submitted by Tracadie & District. RINGER, Gilbert R. “Bob” PEACETIME Bob was born in 1943 in Digby, Nova Scotia. He joined the RCMP and took his basic training at Regina, Saskatchewan. He then served for 35 years at the following: St. John’s, Placentia, Harbour Grace, Bell Island, NL; Ottawa, ON; Sackville and Edmundston, NB; and Glace Bay and Halifax, NS. Bob has been a member of Clementsport Legion Branch #122 for one year. Submitted by the Clementsport Legion Branch #122 of The Royal Canadian Legion. ROBERTS, Ralph KOREA Ralph was born in Windsor, Ontario. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy and served during the Korean War and retired from the Navy after a 23-year career as a Service Officer for which he was awarded many awards and medals. Ralph raised 5 children with his wife, Kathleen Samson, and was a Legion member for over 50 years before he passed away on February 2, 2012 in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. Submitted independently. RITCEY, Laurence A. PEACETIME Laurence was born in 1942 in Riverport, Nova Scotia. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1963 and took his basic training at Chilliwack, BC. He served in Germany, Gagetown, Shearwater and with the Diving Unit HMCS Cormorant. Laurence has been a member of Clementsport Legion Branch #122 for 20 years.
