Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 199 TUPPER, Charles Valentine “Charlie” WWII Charlie was born in Tupperville, Nova Scotia on August 28, 1921. He joined the Army on August 27, 1942, received his basic training in Canada, and sailed for England inAugust 1943. On November 15, he sailed to Italy with the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps, 5th Division. In 1944, the Ordnance Corps became the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. After serving in Canada, Great Britain, Italy, Holland, Belgium, France, and Germany, Charlie returned to Canada and was discharged in 1945. He received the 1939-45 Star, the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, and the War Medal 1939-45. He was discharged in October 1945. Charlie has a 65-year pin and has been a Life Member of Legion Branch #033 in Bridgetown where he still resides. Submitted independently. VARNIER, Louis WWII Louis was born in Inverness, Nova Scotia and he joined the Army to serve in World War II. He landed in Normandy on June 6, 1944 with the 7th Infantry Brigade and 3rd Infantry Division of the Regina Rifle Regiment. He also served in Northwest Europe from 1944 to 1945. Louis was a member of Captain Angus L. Macdonald Legion Branch #132 in Inverness. Submitted by the Inverness Branch #132 of The Royal Canadian Legion. VIBERT, Susan V. PEACETIME Susan was born in Middleton, Nova Scotia in 1951. She joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served in Canada at CFB Greenwood, LFAANQ, CFNOS Halifax, 404 Squadron BTELO, NDHQ, and CFB Ottawa.
