Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 21 BOUDREAU, John Raymond WWII John was born in Boudreauville, Nova Scotia on May 9, 1918. He joined the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve and served as an Able Seaman on HMCS Spikenard which was torpedoed on February 10, 1942. John was killed in action. He was awarded the War Medal 1939-45, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Bar, the Atlantic Star, and the 1939-45 Star. Submitted by the Arichat Legion Branch #150 of The Royal Canadian Legion. BOUDREAU, Nathan Isaac SPECIAL DUTYAREA & AFGHANISTAN Nathan was born in Antigonish, Nova Scotia on March 10, 1983. He joined the Royal Canadian Army in November 2000 in Sydney, Nova Scotia. Nathan is in the Brigade Troops and served in Canada andAfghanistan. He is presently in Gagetown, New Brunswick and is waiting to be posted to England. Nathan married Jennifer on August 19, 2005 and they have two daughters. He is Captain in SUAV (small unmanned air vehicle). Nathan was awarded the GCS Southwest Asia. Submitted by the Arichat Legion Branch #150 of The Royal Canadian Legion. BOWIE, Simon Elsworth WWII Simon was born on September 27, 1914 to George Bowie and Melina Bonvie of Tracadie, Nova Scotia. He enlisted in the Army on May 25, 1942 in New Glasgow. Corporal Bowie served on the home front at Fort Connaught and Citadel Hill in Halifax doing guard duty. Honourably discharged on April 18, 1946 in Halifax, he married Gertie Tate of Grosvenor where they made their home and raised twelve daughters and four sons. At present, he lives in the R. K. MacDonald Guest Home. Four of his brothers also served in World War II. Simon was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp and the War Medal 1939-45. Submitted independently. BOWEN, Thomas Alphonse WWII Thomas was born in Rocky Bay, Cape Breton on May 11, 1918. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy on November 21, 1940. He served in Canada, England, France, and Africa and was discharged as an Able Seaman on August 2, 1945. He was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, the Atlantic Star, and the Africa Star. He then worked for W. A. MacDonald Engineering Dry Dock in Sydney, NS, fished with his brother in Rocky Bay, sailed the Great Lakes in Ontario from 1957 to 1965, worked as a lighthouse attendant and a guard at the Arichat jail, and on a mink ranch before retiring. Alphonse raised five children with his wife, Mary Selena Doyle. He was a member of the Arichat Legion Branch #150 for 27 years, served on various committees and was Past 1st President.
