Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 41 DAVID, Albany Joseph WWII Albany was born on May 7, 1920 in West Arichat, Nova Scotia. On December 4, 1941, he joined the Royal Canadian Army in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia at the age of 21 then went to Aldershot, serving as a Private during World War II. He received the War Medal 1939-45 and was discharged from the Forces on March 31, 1942. He then worked in a fish plant in Surrey, Prince Edward Island then married Kathleen Wrywas of Pleasant Bay, NS in 1948. They raised one daughter. Albany joined the Isle Madame Legion Branch #150 on July 7, 2008 and he passed away on February 6, 2011 at the age of 90. He was pre deceased by his wife, Kathleen. Submitted independently. DAVID, Bernard Joseph “Bernie” WWII Bernie was born in Petit de Grat, Nova Scotia in 1912. He joined the Merchant Navy in 1941 and was a deckhand on HMCS Wataru which sailed the Atlantic and along the US coast, including St. Pierre and Newfoundland. He was awarded the War Medal 1939-45, and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Bar and Clasp. Bernie was discharged in February 1945 and married Dolores Samson in 1948. They raised five children. He worked in Petit de Grat in fish traps then at Booth’s Fisheries until he retired. Bernie passed away on March 18, 2004. Submitted by the Arichat Legion Branch #150 of The Royal Canadian Legion. DeWILDE, Dennis WWII Dennis was born in Belgium. He joined the Free Belgium Army and served in Europe during World War II. Submitted by the Inverness Branch #132 of The Royal Canadian Legion. DeCOSTE, Clifford Joseph WWII Clifford was born in Arichat, Nova Scotia on December 14, 1922. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army in July 1940 and served as a Lance Corporal in England, Europe, and Italy. His brother, Jeffrey, served in the Canadian Navy. Clifford was an infantry soldier at the time of his medical discharge in June 1944. He was awarded the War Metal 1939-45, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Bar, the 193945 Star, the Italy Star, and the Defence Medal for England. After his discharge, Clifford ran the local liquor store for several years. He was a member of Arichat Legion Branch #150 for 36 years before he passed away on June 23, 1986.
