Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 63 GIFFIN, Randolph Murray WWI Randolph, who enlisted in March 1916 at the same time as his brother, Lester, was a clerk with the Chronicle Publishing Company when he joined the 219th Battalion in Halifax. He sailed for England on October 13, 1916 and was with the 17th Reserve Battalion at Bramshott before transferring to the 85th and going to France on March 4, 1917. Private Giffin was wounded at the battle of Mons but remained on duty. He then took part in the Vimy Ridge and Passchendaele battles and on October 22, was killed in action in the battle of Valenciennes. He enlisted with the 4th Pioneers in April, 1916 and trained in St. Stephen, NB before sailing from Halifax to England in October of that year. He was in the trenches from January until April, when he was wounded at Vimy Ridge. Thomas was invalided to England until September when he went back and was killed at Passchendaele on November 10, 1918. Submitted by the Middleton Branch #001 of The Royal Canadian Legion. GILLIES, Murdock B. WWII Murdock was born in Port Hood, Nova Scotia. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy and served during World War II. Murdock was a member of Captain Angus L.
