WWII & KOREA William, also known as Willie the Piper, was born in Inverness, Nova Scotia on January 17, 1914. He worked in the mines and joined the Cape Breton Highlanders in 1940 to go overseas during WWII. He served in Northwest Europe, England, Holland, and Italy and finished out the war as the Pipe Major for the Highlanders Band. When war broke out in Korea, he re-joined, and this time, was the CSM, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. William returned home in 1953 and once again worked in the mines. He spent many years in the Legion as Sergeant at Arms, Service Officer and Zone Commander of Zone 6 at the time, now known as Zone 3. William was a member of Captain Angus L. MacDonald Legion Branch #132 in Inverness before he passed away on April 9, 1995. Submitted by the Inverness Branch #132 of The Royal Canadian Legion. GOYETCHE, Frederick Elais WWII Frederick was born on July 24, 1912 in Cap Auget, Cape Breton. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy on September of 1939 and served in Canada on HMCSArleux and on several other vessels as a cook. He was discharged in June 1945 and demobilized from the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve as an excellent cook. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the Provisional Award. Frederick married Estelle Fougère of Poulamond, Cape Breton on November 27, 1939. They had five children. Frederick worked on fishing vessels for the National Sea Fisheries Company. He passed away in Halifax on November 17, 1972. Submitted by the Arichat Legion Branch #150 of The Royal Canadian Legion. GUNN, John Stewart WWI John was born in Kenlock, Nova Scotia on February 28, 1898. He joined the Army and served with the Canadian Expeditionary Force in France and Europe during World War I. Submitted by the Inverness Branch #132 of The Royal Canadian Legion. GRANT, Duncan WWI Duncan was born to Mrs. Jane Grant on July 12, 1892 in Big Tracadie, Nova Scotia. He was single and a store manager before being drafted at Camp Aldershot on June 15, 1918. Duncan served as a Private with the 25th Battalion Overseas Canadian Expeditionary Forces.
