He joined the Army during World War II and served as a Lance Corporal with the Royal Canadian Corps of Engineers in Italy, France, and Europe. John was a member of Captain Angus L. KINNEY, Samuel Burpee WWII Samuel was born to John and Eunice (Nicholas) Kinney of Linwood, Nova Scotia on July 22, 1909. He enlisted in the Army on July 9, 1940 in New Glasgow and served in Canada as a Gunner with the Royal Canadian Artillery and as a qualified Armament Artificer with the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. After serving in York, Halifax, and Barriefield, Ontario, Staff Sergeant Kinney was discharged on December 12, 1946. He then worked in the Civil Service in Dartmouth and lived in Bedford with his wife, Vera DeWolfe, and their four children. Samuel died in 1994 and is buried in Bedford.
