He joined the Royal Canadian Navy and served on HMCS Nipigon, at CFRS Cornwallis (twice), and HMCS Cornwallis and CFB Cornwallis. He also served at RSS Artillery Staff, 770 Comm Research in Gander, Newfoundland, and at NDHQ Ottawa and RSSAtlantic in New Brunswick. Paul has been a member of Clementsport Legion Branch #122 for 34 years. Submitted by the Clementsport Legion Branch #122 of The Royal Canadian Legion. LAWRENCE, Lane WWI Lane was born in Inverness, Nova Scotia. He joined the Army and was killed in action while serving during World War I. Submitted by the Inverness Branch #132 of The Royal Canadian Legion. LEAL, Ernest R. PEACETIME Ernest was born in Hamilton, Ontario in 1937. He served with the Royal Canadian Navy from July 1954 to July 1979 on HMCS Cornwallis, Bonaventure, La Hulloise, Micmac, Nootka, Stadacona, and Preserver. Ernest was a Life Member of Centennial Legion Branch #160 from 1967 to 2009 when he passed away in July. Submitted by the Centennial Branch #160 of The Royal Canadian Legion. LAYLAND, William Alexander “Bill” PEACETIME Bill was born in Kitchener, Ontario in 1941. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1962 and took his basic training at HMCS Cornwallis. He then took further training in his trade as a Radar Plotter and served on the following HMCS ships: St. Croix, Saint Laurent, Nipigon, Assiniboine, Bonaventure, Saguenay, and Fraser. He did six NATO tours while serving on HMCS ships. Bill also served at Shearwater and Stadacona. He has been a member of Clementsport Legion Branch #122 for 16 years.
