Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 7 ACKER, David Wellsford SPECIAL DUTYAREA David was born in Birchtown, Nova Scotia in 1947. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served with the UN in Cyprus from October 1973 to April 1974. He also served with 1 Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry in 1984 from March to October, and on these Canadian bases: St. Jean, QC; Chatham, NB; Kingston, ON; Baldy Hughes, BC; Halifax, NS; and Calgary, AB. He retired in Halifax in 1987. David was a member of the Legion in Ontario in the 70s and in Halifax for a year in the 1980s. He received the UN Medal, the Canadian Forces Decoration, and the Cyprus Medal. Submitted independently. ACKER, Hilton Wellsford WWII Hilton was born in Birchtown, Nova Scotia in 1920. He joined the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps in 1942 and served in the 40th BatteryAnti-Aircraft in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. He also served in Labrador, Newfoundland, Aldershot, and St. John, New Brunswick before being discharged as a Corporal in 1946 in Halifax. He was awarded the 1939-45 Service Medal. Hilton worked for the CNR until 1974 when a heart attack prevented him from working. He had been a member of Nova Scotia’s Shelburne Legion Branch before he passed away on June 6, 2005. Submitted independently. ADAMS, William F. SOUTH AFRICAN WAR & WWI William is a veteran of the South African War, having served in the years 1899 and 1900. On August 7, 1914, he enlisted with the 1st Canadian Garrison Artillery and served as a Gunner, then as a Bombardier during World War I. He enlisted again with the Royal Canadian Engineers as a Sapper and was promoted to Lance Corporal. Submitted by the Middleton Branch #001 of The Royal Canadian Legion. ADAMS, John W. WWI John enlisted as a Private with the 66th Princess Louise Fusiliers in May 1915 and served with them until this regiment was broken up in May 1918. He was then transferred to the 6th Canadian Garrison Regiment at Halifax and served with them until July 1918, when he was discharged from the service.
