He served as a Private in the 1st Depot Battalion in Canada, United Kingdom, France and Belgium during WWI. Hugh died in the United States, in Detroit, Michigan. Submitted by the Grandona Branch # 124 of The Royal Canadian Legion. MacNEIL, James M. WWI James was born in Broad Cove, Nova Scotia. He served in France with the 185th Battalion of the Cape Breton Highlanders during World War I. Submitted by the Inverness Branch # 132 of The Royal Canadian Legion. MacNEIL, John Dan WWII John was born on December 11, 1909 to Neil H. and MaryAnn (MacKenzie) MacNeil of Barra Glen, Nova Scotia. He joined the Army in 1942 and served in Canada. He was a carpenter by trade who spent most of his life reading and writing Gaelic stories, along with Gaelic singing. He married Catherine (Mutsie) MacNeil and they had four children. John died in Sydney on August 9, 1988 and was buried in Resurrection Cemetery. Submitted by the Grandona Branch # 124 of The Royal Canadian Legion. MacNEIL, John Angus WWI John was born in Broad Cove, Nova Scotia. He served in France with the 64th Battalion of the Canadian Infantry during World War I.
