He served as a Private in the 1st Depot Battalion in Canada, United Kingdom, France and Belgium during WWI. Hugh died in the United States, in Detroit, Michigan. MacNEIL, John Dan WWII John was born on December 11, 1909 to Neil H. and MaryAnn (MacKenzie) MacNeil of Barra Glen, Nova Scotia. He joined the Army in 1942 and served in Canada. He was a carpenter by trade who spent most of his life reading and writing Gaelic stories, along with Gaelic singing. He married Catherine (Mutsie) MacNeil and they had four children.
