He served with the 43rd Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force in France during World War I. Neil was killed in action on October 26, 1917 at Ypres, France. Submitted by the Inverness Branch # 132 of The Royal Canadian Legion. MacVEIGH, Bobby WWII Bobby was born in Inverness, Nova Scotia. During World War II, he joined the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps and served in Europe. Bobby has been a member of Captain Angus L. MacDonald Legion Branch 132 in Inverness. Submitted by the Inverness Branch # 132 of The Royal Canadian Legion. MANTHORNE, Frederick Lionel WWII Frederick was born in Liverpool, Nova Scotia on June 17, 1920. He joined the Army and served with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders during World War II. Private Manthorne departed Halifax for England on July 18, 1941 on the SS Orion and was stationed mostly in Surrey, England as a cook. He also trained troops for shipping out. Frederick brought his Scottish bride, Agnas Nelson, back with him after the end of the war. He passed away in 2000. Submitted independently. MANNING, Edward McKay WWI Edward enlisted on August 12, 1915 in the 64th Battalion and after preliminary training, started for England on April 1, 1916. He reached France after transferring to the C.A.M.C. in October 1916 and fought in the major battles of Vimy Ridge, Passchendaele and Cambrai, as well as many minor ones, as he was still in France when the Armistice was signed.
