Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 153 McMANUS, Charles Peter SPECIAL DUTY AREA Charles was born in 1941 in Ottawa, Ontario. He served in Canada, England and on the high seas with HMCS Carleton, Cornwallis, Shearwater, Victoriaville, Stadacona, Chignecto, Quinte, Cap de la Madeleine, Cape Scott, Niobe, Dolphin, Ojibway, and Onondaga. Charles also served at National Defence Headquarters DDEM 5-4 and DDDS 2-5. He also spent 12 years in the Reserves as a CIC Officer with 824 Silver Dart Air Cadets. Charles was awarded the Queen’s Gallantry Medal and the Canadian Forces Decoration 3. He has been a member of L’Ardoise Legion Branch # 110 for thirty-one years. MENCHIONS, Norman WWI Norman enlisted in the 66th Regiment, Princess Louise Fusiliers and was made Sergeant and detailed for duty at Sandwich Camp. In 1915, he was promoted to Company Quarter Master Sergeant and served as such on the Harbour Defences until August 4, 1918 when he received his discharge. Submitted by the Middleton Branch # 001 of The Royal Canadian Legion. MOMBOURQUETTE, James Ernest WWI James was born in 1924 in L’Ardoise, Nova Scotia. During the Second World War, he served overseas with the Cape Breton Highlanders and the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiments. James was a Life Member of L’Ardoise Legion Branch # 110 before he passed away in 2009. Submitted by the L’Ardoise Branch # 110 of The Royal Canadian Legion. MINGO, Ernest Chambers WWII Ernest was born in 1917 in Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia. He joined the Army and served in Holland and Germany with the Sherbrooke Fusiliers. He was the last Commander of the Tank Bomb, the only Canadian tank to operate from D-Day to VE Day. Ernest has been a member of Branch # 34 for over 65 years.
