Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 157 MORRIS, Henry Nelson WWII Henry was born in Port Shoreham, Guysborough County, Nova Scotia in July 1909. He joined the Army on May 23, 1940 and served with “B” Company, Pictou Highlanders of the Royal Canadian Regiment in Canada until he left for England on November 25, 1943. Private Morris sailed for Italy on February 17, 1944 and was wounded in Ortona on October 16 when their shelter was attacked by Germans. He was in Canadian hospitals in Italy until February 5, 1945. Henry was a member of Mulgrave Legion Branch # 37 for more than 40 years before he passed away on February 7, 1993. Submitted independently. MORTON, David A. WWII David was born in Trenton, Nova Scotia in 1923. He traveled overseas on the Queen Mary and served in North Africa, Italy, France, Belgium, and Holland with the Princess Louise 8th NB Hussars, 5th Canadian Armed Regiment during WWII. After the war, he served in Germany in the Occupational Army and returned home on the Île de France. For many years, he was a Senior Non-Commissioned Officer (Lance Sergeant) in the First Battalion Nova Scotia Highlanders at the New Glasgow Militia Branch where he saw his three teenage sons also join. David died on Remembrance Day in 2011. Submitted independently. MUIR, John WWI John enlisted with the Royal Canadian Regiment on August 10, 1915 and sailed for overseas in October, 1915. After some months training in England, he left for France in the spring of 1916 and fought at Ypres, the battle of St. Quentin and at the Somme. He was wounded in action. Submitted by the Middleton Branch # 001 of The Royal Canadian Legion. MORTON, Frank J. PEACETIME Frank was born in 1941 in Montreal, Quebec. He joined the Canadian Army in 1959 and took his basic training at Petawawa, ON. He then served at the following bases: Petawawa and Picton, ON; Cornwallis, NS; Calgary AB; Jost, Germany; and Cyprus. He was medically released after serving 18 years. Frank was with the 1st Canadian Guards, 2nd Canadian Guards, 3RCR, and 1PPCLI. He has been a member of Clementsport Legion Branch # 122 for more than 42 years. Submitted by the Clementsport Legion Branch # 122 of The Royal Canadian Legion.
