He joined the Canadian Navy and served in Canada on HMCS Port Colborne during World War II. Lendal was a member of Carleton Legion Branch # 167 for 31 years before he passed away in 2012. Submitted by the Lawrencetown Branch # 112 of The Royal Canadian Legion. OAKLEY, Kenneth “Ken” WWII Ken was born in 1920 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He served in the Army in Europe with the 11th Field Dressing Station of the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps. He was a dedicated employee of Frank’s Fuels for many years until he retired. He was also a devoted member of the Holy Guardian Angels Parish in L’Ardoise and was involved with the L’Ardoise Men’s Club. Ken was a member of L’Ardoise Legion Branch # 110 before he passed away in 2013. Submitted by the L’Ardoise Branch # 110 of The Royal Canadian Legion. OICKLE, Charles Edward WWII Charles was born on December 8, 1925 in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. He joined the Army and served as a Private in France and Germany during WWII. He drove tanks, trucks and motorcycles and suffered a shot to the head, but returned to the battle field two weeks later. He was awarded the France and Germany Star. Charles died on April 1, 1997. Submitted independently. O’BRIEN, Alfred WWI Alfred enlisted the day the war was declared by joining the Canadian Engineers as a bugler, and tried to go to France but was turned down from active service being only 14. A week later, he joined the 10th Siege Battery, sailed overseas on January 25, 1916 and went to France on January 5, 1917. He served as a dispatch man and on the guns for the 5th Battery of the Canadian Field Artillery and was still fighting when the Armistice was signed. He was in several big battles yet was only 16 when he went overseas. Submitted by the Middleton Branch # 001 of The Royal Canadian Legion.
