He joined the Army and served with the Canadian Corps of Engineers in Europe during WWII. Hugh has been a member of Captain Angus L. Macdonald Legion Branch 132 in Inverness. Submitted by the Inverness Branch # 132 of The Royal Canadian Legion. RAFTUS, John William WWI John enlisted in Halifax on August 31, 1915 with the 64th Battalion and went overseas on April 1, 1916. He was transferred to the 26th New Brunswick Battalion and went to France in June 1916 where he was wounded in the battle of Courcelette and again at Ypres. WWII Finlay was born in Mabou Harbour, Nova Scotia. He joined the Army and served with the Royal Canadian Artillery in Europe during WWII. Finlay has been a member of Captain Angus L. Macdonald Legion Branch 132 in Inverness. Submitted by the Inverness Branch # 132 of The Royal Canadian Legion. RANEY, John Jeffery WWII John was born in 1920 in Point Michaud, Nova Scotia. He served in Canada during WWII as a Gunner with the Royal Canadian Artillery, 1st AA Battery. Following his military service, he returned home to work as a lobster fisherman and carpenter. John served on many committees in many clubs, including the L’Ardoise Men’s Club and the Jolly Club for seniors. He was a Life Member of L’Ardoise Legion Branch # 110 for sixty-seven years and held several positions, including three terms as President and many terms as Poppy Chairman. John passed away in 2012.
