Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 189 TUCKER, Gerald Adrian KOREA, PEACETIME, KOSOVO Gerald was born in1951 in Stellarton, Nova Scotia and he joined the RCMP in 1970. He did nine years on General duties and 30 more years on Forensic Identification Section. He was posted to Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and retired in Alberta. Gerald did a nine-month Peace Keeping Mission in Kosovo in 2000 as head of the Forensic Unit in the city of Mitrovica. He had two children, Trudy and Matthew, with his wife Sharon. Gerald received the RCMP 20Year with Golden Bar, Canada 125, U.N Kosovo, Canadian Peace Keeping and Queen’s Jubilee Medal. He also received the RCMP Commissioner’s Commendation for duties in Thailand after the tsunami. Gerald has been a member of Colchester Legion Branch # 26. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served in Korea. John died of cancer at home in 2007. Submitted independently. VARRENCE, Joseph WWII Joseph was born in Inverness, Cape Breton. He joined the Royal Canadian Artillery and served as a Gunner in Europe during World War II. Joseph died in active service on February 24, 1944. Submitted by the Inverness Branch # 132 of The Royal Canadian Legion. VAN TASSEL, Cecil Boyd KOREA, SPECIAL DUTY AREA & PEACETIME Cecil was born in Digby, Nova Scotia in 1928. He joined the Army and served in Canada, Korea, Cyprus, and Germany with the Black Watch. He was awarded the UN Service Medal, the UN Medal (Cyprus), and the Canadian Forces Decoration. Cecil was a member of Oromocto Legion Branch # 93 before he died in 1976. Submitted by the Lawrencetown Branch # 112 of The Royal Canadian Legion.
