WWI Zenas enlisted in Chester on October 22, 1916 in the 112th Battalion and went overseas on June 22, 1916. He was transferred to the Royal Canadian Regiment and fought at the great battles of Vimy Ridge, Arras and the Somme. He died on September 7 of wounds which he received at Arras. He served overseas with the Royal Canadian Artillery (Halifax Rifles) in Holland and Germany. After the war, he worked as a woodsman, carpenter, bricklayer, and ammunition specialist. Gordon was an accomplished fiddler who also enjoyed fishing, camping, cards and bowling. Gordon was a former President of the Westside Branch of The Royal Canadian Legion. He was also a Life Member of L’Ardoise Legion Branch # 110 before he died in 2009. Submitted by the L’Ardoise Branch # 110 of The Royal Canadian Legion. WILKEN (SUTHERLAND), Fairlie WWII Fairlie was born to Mrs. Alice Sutherland in Musgrave, Nova Scotia in 1914. She served in Canada with the Canadian Women’s Army Corps during WWII. Fairlie married Sven Wilken and they had three sons. She died in 2002 in Florida, USA. Submitted independently. WHITE, Fredrick Leo WWII Fredrick was born in Inverness, Cape Breton. He joined the Royal Canadian Army and served with the Highlanders in Europe during World War II. Fredrick was killed in action in France on August 26, 1944.
