He joined the Merchant Navy in 1941 at the age of 16 and served on the Atlantic and Pacific oceans until 1946. He was awarded the Pacific Star, the Atlantic Star, the George VI Medal, and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. He married Ruth Sutherland of Mulgrave, Nova Scotia, daughter of Mrs. Alice Sutherland, and they had nine children. He was a Supervisor when he retired from Nova Scotia Industries in Port Tupper in 1990. Lewis died on March 20, 1993. Submitted by the Cambrai Legion Branch # 037 of The Royal Canadian Legion. MacDONALD, Margaret WWII Margaret was born on May 31, 1922, the daughter of Angus Ranald and Sarah Liza MacNeil of Washabuck, Nova Scotia. She served as a Private in Canada with the Canadian Women’s Army Corps during WWII. Margaret died on June 25, 1990 and is buried in the Holy Rosary Cemetery, Washabuck. She never married. Submitted by the Grandona Branch # 124 of The Royal Canadian Legion. MacDONALD, Ranald WWII Ranald was born on January 25, 1914 to Angus Ranald and Sarah Liza MacNeil of Washabuck, Nova Scotia. During WWII, Private MacDonald served in Canada and the United Kingdom with the Cape Breton Highlanders. He married Joan MacKenzie of Washabuck and was a member of Grandona Legion Branch # 126 for 18 years. Ranald died on August 5, 1983 and is buried in the Holy Rosary Cemetery in Washabuck. Submitted by the Grandona Branch # 124 of The Royal Canadian Legion. MacDONALD, R. J. WWII R. J. MacDonald was born in Inverness, Nova Scotia. He joined the Army and served with the Cape Breton Highlanders in Europe during World War II. R. J. has been a member of Captain Angus L. MacDonald Legion Branch 132 in Inverness.
