Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 99 DICKIE, Edward Owen WWI Edward was born in Eastville in 1893, son of Andrew Cox and Leticia (Graham) Dickie, and joined the Canadian Army in San Francisco. He went to British Columbia and then to England where he did his training and then to France with the Canadian Field Artillery where he was until the end of the war. He married Mary Victoria Thelin and lived in Alberta. Edward passed away in 1979. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society DICKIE, Herman Samier WWI & WWII Herman was born in Eastville in 1888, son of George and Georgina (McKeen) Dickie, and joined the Army in 1917, shortly after the death of his first wife, Elizabeth Fulton. After spending some time overseas, he married his second wife, Lelia Smith of Cross Roads, and they moved to California. Herman was an Air Raid Warden during WWII and in 1943, during a blackout, he tripped and fell down a stairway fatally fracturing his skull. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society DILLMAN, Ernest Albert WWII Ernest was born in 1920. In World War II, he joined the Army and served with the 4th Antitank, 98TH Battery, 5th Division, in Canada, England, Sicily, France, Holland and Germany. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the 1939-45 Star, the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal and the War Medal 1939-45.
