Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 111 FEENER, George Ernest “Ernie” WWI Ernie was born in New Albany, Nova Scotia on June 24, 1896. He joined the Canadian Army, 112th 25 Battalion in November 1915 and served in England and France. He fought at Vimy Ridge where he was gassed. Ernie returned to Canada in September 1918 and was discharged after spending some time at Camp Hill. His two sons, Carl and Leroy, served in World War II. Ernie passed away in 1976. Submitted by Middleton Branch # 001 of The Royal Canadian Legion FINN, Wayne P. SPECIAL DUTY AREA & PEACETIME Wayne was born in St. John’s, Newfoundland in 1961. He joined the Navy and served on HMCS Fort Steele, Preserver, Protecteur, Fraser, Toronto, Charlottetown, Athabaskan, Cabot, Provider, Scotian, Porte St. Louis and Porte St. Jean before he retired on November 29, 2007. Wayne has been a member of Spryfield Legion Branch # 152 for nine years. Submitted by the Spryfield Branch # 152 of The Royal Canadian Legion FISHER, Aubrey Clair WWI Aubrey, son of David and Jane (Bates) Fisher of Berry Hill, was born in 1896. He left the farm and enlisted in 1914 at age 18. He joined the 25th Battalion, Canadian Infantry, Nova Scotia Regiment. Aubre was killed in action at St. Éloi on April 16, 1916 and is named on the Ypres Memorial. This monument bears the names of men who were lost without a trace during the defence of the Ypres Salient during WWI. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society
