Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 113 FISHER, Duncan Cameron WWI Duncan was born in Upper Stewiacke in 1890, son of Putnam and Ida (Crocker) Fisher of Goshen. He enlisted with the 85th Battalion and was exposed to poisonous gas while overseas. After the war, he moved to Timmons, Ontario where he worked in the mines. Duncan married Elizabeth, a girl he met in Scotland and a sister to his brother Tom’s wife Mary. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society FISHER, George Chester WWI George was born in Berry Hill, Upper Stewiacke, in 1896, the son of Walter and Elizabeth (Bates) Fisher. He served with the Canadian Infantry, New Brunswick Regiment, and was wounded at the Battle of Arras on Vimy Ridge on April 9, 1917. George died a few days later, on April 13. He is buried in Wimereux Communal Cemetery in Pas de Calais, France. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society FISHER, Thomas Crocker WWI Tom was born in Upper Musquodoboit in 1896 and lived with his family in Goshen. He was the son of Putman and Ida (Crocker) Fisher, and enlisted in Halifax in 1915 with the 85th Battalion, Nova Scotia Highlanders. Tom was gassed while serving overseas and had breathing problems for the rest of his life. He married Mary, a Scottish girl, and lived in Timmins, Ontario where he worked for a mining company.
