Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 129 GASS, Laurence Henderson WWI Laurence was born in Amherst, Nova Scotia on October 31, 1890 and his trade was that of Dominion Land Surveyor. He was 25 years old when he enlisted in the Canadian Artillery in Montreal, Quebec on March 15, 1916. Serving as a Lieutenant in Europe with the 5th Siege Battery, Laurence was wounded at the battle of Vimy Ridge where he fractured his femur and suffered schrapnel wounds to his right thigh. He died of his wounds at No. 6 Casualty Clearing Station on April 8, 1917 at the age of 26. He is buried in Plot 1, H. 77 in the Barlin Communal Cemetery in Pas de Calais, France. Submitted independently GAUDET, Alphie WWI Alphie was born in St. Bernard, Nova Scotia in 1891. He enlisted in the Canadian Calvary in 1916 and served as a blacksmith. He passed away in Val-d’Or, Quebec in 1953. Submitted by Middleton Branch # 001 of The Royal Canadian Legion GAUDET, Lezin C. WWI Lezin was born in the District of Clare, Nova Scotia in 1889. He joined the Canadian Army on November 4, 1916 and served in France and Germany with the 140th Battalion. Lezin saw action in the Vimy Ridge Campaign and returned home to Canada in 1919.
