Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 135 GULLAGE, John WWI & WWII John was born in Catalina, Newfoundland in 1889. He served in the Merchant Navy during World War I and World War II. Following the sinking of SS Caribou by enemy fire in the Cabot Straight, the SS Burges, under his command, was assigned as a replacement. John remained on the passenger run from North Sydney to Port-aux-Basques through the remaining war years until his retirement in November 1954. He and all three of his sons served during World War Two. Bill and Roland served overseas with the RNR and Joe with the Merchant Navy. In recognition, John was awarded the Officer of the Order of the British Empire by the reigning King of England. John was a member of Sydney Branch # 012 of The Royal Canadian Legion until his death in 1982. Submitted independently HAMILTON, Neil Everett WWII Neil was born in 1922. He joined the Army and served with the 19th Field Artillery in Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany during World War II. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star and the Defence Medal. Neil was a Charter Member of Valley Legion Branch # 147. Submitted by the Valley Branch # 147 of The Royal Canadian Legion HAMM, Eaton WWI Eaton was born on June 18, 1893 and resided in Western Shore, Nova Scotia. He enlisted with the 1st Depot Battalion, Nova Scotia Regiment on March 13, 1918. Submitted by Harding Branch # 144 of The Royal Canadian Legion
