He joined the Canadian Army in WWI and the Canadian Navy in WWII. He served as a Sergeant in the Infantry from 1914 to 1918 and was Chief “ERA” with the Navy from 1942 to 1945. He served in Salonica, Egypt in WWI, and in WWII he served in Point Edward Naval Base, in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. James was awarded the Moon’s Star, the British War Medal, the Victory Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the Queen’s Coronation Medal. He was a Life Member of Westside Branch # 126 of The Royal Canadian Legion and a member of the “Oed Contemptibles.” James passed away in 1970. Submitted by Westside Branch # 126 of The Royal Canadian Legion HÉBERT, Raoul PEACETIME Raoul was born in 1928 in St. Simon, New Brunswick. He joined the Navy and served on HMCS Bonaventure, Magnificent, Ottawa, Micmac, Skeena, Annapolis, Fundy, Ungava, Crescent, Cowichan, Trinity and St. Croix. He was a member of Centennial Legion Branch # 160 for twenty-one years and was Veteran of the Month in March 2013. Raoul was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration. Submitted by the Centennial Branch # 160 of The Royal Canadian Legion HENCHER, Thomas WWI Thomas enlisted on August 7, 1914, three days after war was declared, and sailed overseas with a draft from the 66th on May 16, 1918. On arrival, he was transferred to the Canadian Garrison Artillery. Previous to enlisting, Thomas had served as a soldier for 19 years.
