Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 143 HERRON, William Austin RESERVES William was born in Noranda, Quebec in 1934. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1959 and served in Canada with the Lorne Scots (P. D. & H. Regiment). He retired as RSM in 1994. William was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration 2. He has been a member of Colchester Legion Branch # 026 for more than twenty years. Submitted independently HESSEN, Robert PEACETIME Robert was born in Stratford, Ontario and he joined the Navy, serving as a Navy diver. In 1955, he won the Golden Gloves Award for boxing and in 1956, earned the title of Maritime Command Navy Heavyweight as well as the Maritime Professional Heavyweight in 1957. Robert has been a member of Centennial Legion Branch # 160 for forty years and is also a Life Member. He was Veteran of the Month in March 2010. Submitted by the Centennial Branch # 160 of The Royal Canadian Legion HEWEY, Avery W. WWI Avery was born in 1895 in Victory, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia. He served with the Canadian Army in Europe during World War I and suffered wounds resulting in the amputation of both legs, but he survived to return home. Avery passed away in 1990 at a Veterans’ Hospital in Saint John, New Brunswick. Submitted by Middleton Branch # 001 of The Royal Canadian Legion
