He enlisted in the Canadian Army on October 18, 1941 in Halifax, Nova Scotia and served in Canada as a Sapper in the Royal Canadian Engineers. He was honourably discharged on March 24, 1943 and was awarded the War Medal 1939-45. André was a member of Pictou Legion Branch # 016 before he passed away in 2009. He joined the Canadian Navy during World War II and served on HMS Jervis Bay, Lady Somers, Montclare, Penelope and Lioness. He fought during the Battle of Britain and the Battle of Italy. Roy was a Life Member of Centennial Legion Branch # 160 and was a member there for twentysix years as well as Veteran of the Month in February 2011. He was also Past President in 1992 and 1994. Roy was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration. He received the Defence Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the War Medal 1939-45. Harold was a member of Valley Legion Branch # 147. Harold was also a Charter Member of this branch.
