Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 171 MacKAY, Peter WWII & PEACETIME Peter was born on May 3, 1924 at Union Square, Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy and served aboard the British aircraft carrier HMCS Nabob. He served in the Navy during the war years from 1943 to 1944 and he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1950 as a Communications Operator. Peter was stationed in 1958 at 4HFFTRIER Ramstein, Germany, in 1959 at St. Hubert, Quebec and at Sioux Lookout radar site from 1973 to 1983 when he retired from the Forces. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the War Medal 1939-45 and the Canadian Forces Service Medal with Bar. Peter passed away in April 2014. He joined the Army during WWI and served as a gunner. John was a member of Whycocomagh Legion Branch # 123 before he passed away on November 2, 1971.
