He joined the Royal Canadian Navy during World War II and was an aircraft mechanic on HMCS Bonaventure and HMCS Labrador on its maiden voyage through the Northwest Passage. He served in Canada and the United Kingdom. Arthur received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the Canadian Forces Decoration, the France and Germany Star and the Italy Star. He was a member of Spryfield Legion Branch # 152 for forty-four years before he passed away in 2011. He joined the Navy and served on HMCS Labrador, Micmac, Buckingham, Restigouche, Provider, Ottawa, Skeena and Saguenay. Ivan has been a member of Centennial Legion Branch # 160 for thirty-seven years and was Veteran of the Month in December 2010. He was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration 2 and the Member of the Order of Military Merit.
