He joined the Navy and served in the Korean campaign on HMCS Crescent, Iroquois, Quinte, Outremont, Kootenay, St. Croix, Cape Scott and Saguenay. Bill was a member of Centennial Legion Branch # 160 for twenty-eight years and was Veteran of the Month in March 2011. He received a UN Service Medal and the Canadian Forces Decoration with Clasp. He died in 2012. Submitted by the Centennial Branch # 160 of The Royal Canadian Legion SLADE, Harold Leonard PEACETIME Harold was born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia in 1936. He joined the Canadian Navy and served on HMCS Bonaventure, St. Croix, Nipigon, Fraser, Chaleur, Stadacona, and Saint Laurent. He also served with NATO on the high seas and upon retiring after 20 years of service, was a Warrant Officer and the recipient of several medals including the NATO Medal for Service. Harold has been a member of Hants County Legion Branch # 009 for forty-five years. Submitted by the Hants County Branch # 009 of The Royal Canadian Legion SMITH, Murray St. Clair WWII & KOREA & PEACETIME Murray was born on May 10, 1925 in Harmony Mills, Queens County, Nova Scotia. He joined the Army on January 30, 1941 and served until January 29, 1945. He reenlisted on February 20, 1948 and retired on February 25, 1970. Murray served with the 2nd Heavy Anti-aircraft Regiment during World War II. He also served in Italy, France, Germany, Korea, Egypt, Alert, Halifax and Ottawa. He received the 193945 Star, the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, the War Medal 1939-45, the United Nations Emergency Force Medal and the Canadian Forces Decoration with Clasp. He has been a member of A. L Patterson Legion Branch # 087 in Caledonia for thirty-nine years and served as Branch President. Submitted by the Patterson Branch # 087 of The Royal Canadian Legion
