He joined the Army and served with the Princess Louise Fusiliers and West Nova Scotia Regiment during World War II. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the 1939-with five Star, the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal and the War Medal 1939-45. Howard was a Charter Member of Valley Legion Branch # 147. Submitted by the Valley Branch # 147 of The Royal Canadian Legion WELTON, Kenneth Ken PEACETIME Ken was born in 1933 in Tremont, Nova Scotia. He joined the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals in 1955 and his first unit was No. 1 Airborne Signal Squadron in Kingston, Ontario. He completed his paratrooper training in Rivers, Manitoba in 1957 then transferred to the 3rd RCHA in Gagetown where he was a motorcycle dispatch rider. In 1958-59, he served one year with UNEF in Egypt at UN Headquarters in Gaza. On returning to Canada, he was posted to the following: N.S. Sigs Sqn, Halifax; School of Signals, Kingston to change trades to Teletype and Cipher Technician; N.S. Sigs Squadron, Camp Debert; Comm. Sqn., CFB Borden; School of Signals Vimy Barracks; 720 Comm Sqn Camp Debert. Ken retired from the Armed Forces in 1976 with the rank of Sergeant. He has been a member of Colchester Legion Branch # 026 in Truro for thirty years. Submitted by the Colchester Branch # 026 of The Royal Canadian Legion WILLIAMS, Breton Barkhouse WWII Breton was born in 1905 in Upper New Cornwall. He joined the Canadian Army and served with the 5th Division in England, France, Italy, Holland and Germany during World War II. He was awarded the Defence Medal, the Italy Star and the France and Germany Star. He was a member of Mahone Bay Legion Branch # 049 for thirty years before he passed away in 1975.
