Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 35 BIGGS, Leonard PEACETIME Leonard was born in London, England in 1931. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy and served on HMCS Bonaventure, Annapolis, Nipigon, Margaree, Protecteur and Algonquin. Leonard has been a member of Centennial Legion Branch # 160 for six years and was Veteran of the Month in April 2011. Submitted by the Centennial Branch # 160 of The Royal Canadian Legion BISHOP, Daniel Raymond WWI Daniel was born in River De Chute, New Brunswick in 1898. He joined the Army in World War I and served in France where he was wounded at Passchendaele. Daniel was a member of Woodstock Legion Branch # 011 until he died in 1982. Submitted independently BLAIKIE, Harry Lee WWI Harry was born in 1897 in Burnside, the son of D. Morrison and Elmira (Webster) Blaikie. He enlisted in 1916 in the 193rd Battalion and was later transferred to the 25th. He fought at Vimy Ridge, Passchendaele, Ypres and Somme among many other places. In 1987, he was chosen to represent Nova Scotia at the activities marking the 70th Anniversary of the battle of Vimy Ridge. He married Ellen (Nellie) Flemming of Musquodoboit and lived in Truro where he was a partner in the ownership of Blaikie’s Garage. Harry passed away in 1988.
