Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 37 BLAIKIE, Samuel Alden WWI Alden was born in 1891 in Burnside, the son of D. Morrison and Elmira (Webster) Blaikie. He enlisted a few days after the declaration of war and trained at Valcartier, Quebec and was sent overseas with the 15th Battalion, Canadian Infantry, serving as a Rifleman. He then requested to be transferred to work as a stretcher-bearer. Alden was killed in France on June 3, 1916 and is buried at Railway Dugouts Burial Ground in Zillebeke, Belgium. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society BLANCHARD, Aubrey WWI Aubrey was born to on October 24, 1876 in Truro, Nova Scotia. At the time of his enlistment, he was residing in St. Jean, Quebec. He spent five months with the 63rd Halifax Rifles and one month with the 193rd Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force. Aubrey died in Bible Hill, Nova Scotia on February 23, 1944. Submitted independently BLANCHARD, Benjamin H. C. WWI Benjamin was born on February 16, 1890 in Baddeck, Nova Scotia. He enlisted at Valcartier, Quebec in the First Contingent in the 17th Battalion in October 1914. He was promoted to Lance Corporal in June 1915 and Corporal for Merit in the field in September 1915.
