Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 39 BLANCHARD, Cecil Lawrence WWI Cecil was born in Windsor, Nova Scotia on March 3, 1899. When the war started in 1914, he was 16 and in his first year at King’s College. He enlisted in the 112th Hants County Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force and being underage, went to England as a bugler in 1915, staying there until he turned 18. He then went to France with the Seaforth Highlanders and was later exchanged to the “famous shock battalion of Halifax, known as the “Fighting TwentyFifth””. Cecil saw the worst of battles but was spared any accident even as he frequently went into battle with his platoon. He served in the Army of Occupation after the Armistice was signed after which he returned home to continue his studies. Rev. Blanchard, M.A., M.M., received the Military Medal with Bar for gallant services overseas. Submitted independently BLANCHARD, Edward Sherburne WWI Edward was born in Truro, Nova Scotia on August 27, 1895 and he resided in Detroit, Michigan. He enlisted in the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force in Windsor, Ontario on May 16, 1917 and served overseas with the Canadian Field Artillery, 4th Division Trench Mortar Battery. Gunner Blanchard died in France on April 24, 1918 and is buried at La Targette British Cemetery in Pas de Calais. Submitted independently BLANCHARD, Edward Sherburne WWI Edward was born in Centreville, Nova Scotia on May 15, 1894. He enlisted to serve in World War I on September 7, 1915. Submitted independently
