Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 57 BURNS, Louis World War I Louis enlisted with the 1st Depot Battalion on March 27, 1916. On April 9, 1918, he sailed for England where he trained until September 9, 1918. He had been fighting for some weeks when the Armistice put an end to hostilities. He was going through Belgium at the time. Submitted by the Middleton Branch # 001 of The Royal Canadian Legion BRYDON, Vere WWII Vere was born in 1923 in Black Rock, Nova Scotia and he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in World War II, serving in Canada, England and France during WWII. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the 1939-45 Star, the Aircrew Europe Star, the Canadian Forces Decoration, the War Medal 1939-45, the France and Germany Star and the Italy Star. He was a member of Spryfield Legion Branch # 152 and the Ontario Branch # 069 for a total of forty-seven years before he passed away in 2013. Submitted by the Spryfield Branch # 152 of The Royal Canadian Legion CAMERON, Bruce WWI Bruce was an 18-year-old from Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia when he joined the CEF and was assigned to the 16th Battalion (the Canadian Scottish). He would survive wounds received in October 1915, but he would be killed on June 13, 1916 during the Battle for Hill 62 in the Ypres Salient. Bruce was buried at the Railway Dugouts Burial Ground outside Ypres; however, at some time during the battle for Ypres Salient, the burial ground was shelled by German artillery and his remains were disrupted. Today, “Special Memorial” H 28 can be found at the Railway Dugouts Burial Ground making note of the fact that his remains are buried somewhere in the cemetery.
