Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 85 COX, Weldon John WWI He was born ‘Weldon Thorpe’ in 1898, the son of William and Bertha (Patterson) Thorpe, and was raised by his mother’s aunt, Caroline (Graham) Cox of Eastville. He joined the 106th Battalion in 1915 and after the war, married Bessie Robinson and lived in Truro and then the United States. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society COX, William Rutherford WWI William, born in 1886, was the son of Dr. Robinson and Mary (Rutherford) Cox of Upper Stewiacke Village. He was a Lieutenant in the 106th Battalion and went overseas with them. On his return, he lived in Upper Stewiacke and Vancouver, returning to Halifax in the mid 1960s. William passed away in 1968. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society CREELMAN, Prescott Archibald WWI Prescott, son of Samuel Prescott and Marianna (MacDonald) Creelman of Upper Stewiacke Village, was born in 1895. He enlisted in 1915 in the 2nd Pioneer Battalion. After returning from overseas, he studied medicine and received his degree from Dalhousie University in 1925 then did further studies in New York and Ohio. Prescott practiced medicine in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. In 1928, he was given the position of Chief Health Officer for Prince Edward Island, a position he held for 25 years. He married Frieda Isabel Creighton. Prescott passed away in 1957. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society
