Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 105 KELLEY, Aluahld WWII Aluahld was born in 1912 in Upper North Field, Nova Scotia. He served in the Army with the West Nova Scotia Regiment during World War II. He served in England, Holland and Belgium. Aluahld passed away in 1990. Submitted independently KING (LeROI), Joseph Freeman WWI Joseph was born in Port Felix on May 27, 1890 to Frederick King (LeRoi) and Charlotte David. He served in World War I with the Princess Louise Fusiliers. On August 17, 1919, The Prince of Wales (later Edward VII) visited Halifax. There was a picture of Joseph Freeman King showing the Prince his troop in the newspaper. He married Catherine Margaret “Cassie” George on February 9, 1908 in St. Joseph’s Church in Halifax. They had three daughters, Mary, Charlotte and Bette. Joseph King died on May 8, 1957 at the age of 67 in Rockingham, Halifax and is buried in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville. He will be remembered and respected for his years of service. Submitted by the Torbay Branch # 117 of The Royal Canadian Legion LEIGHTON, Murray Earl WWII Percy was born on May 11, 1923 in Sweet’s Corner, Hants County, Nova Scotia. He joined the Army on December 20, 1941 and served with the Cape Breton Highlanders until his death on September 8, 1944. Murray fudged about his age so that he could join the Armed Forces. Family oral history says that Murray was sixteen years old when he joined the military, meaning that he was only 21 years old when he was killed while on tour in Italy.
