He joined the Canadian Army in November 1944, when he was only sixteen years old, and served until his discharge on August 27, 1945. He fudged his age because he wanted to fight for his country. When the Army discovered that Gene was underage when he joined, he was discharged. On his discharge date, he was 17 years and 6 months old. Gene passed away on June 23, 1989 and is buried in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Gallingertown, South Stormant County, Ontario. Submitted by the Hants Co. Branch # 009 of The Royal Canadian Legion McCANN, Marvin Lewis “Pete” WWII Pete was born on March 25, 1923 in Windsor, Hants County, Nova Scotia. He enlisted with the Canadian Army on May 13, 1940, shortly after he turned seventeen, and served with the Royal Canadian Regiment 8th Army until his discharge on September 25, 1945. His attestation papers state his birth date at November 11, 1920 – three years older than his actual age. He served in Sicily, Italy, and Northwest Europe during World War II. Pete passed away on November 12, 1960, and is buried in Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor. Submitted by the Hants Co. Branch # 009 of The Royal Canadian Legion McCANN, Ronald Arthur “Ron” WWII Ron was born on December 15, 1912 in Windsor, Hants County, Nova Scotia. He joined the Royal Canadian Ordinance Corp on August 27, 1942 until his discharge on June 22, 1946. His theatres of war include the United Kingdom and Continental Europe.
