Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 147 PELLERIN, Alphonse “Phonso” WWI Phonso as he was known was born in Larry’s River on June 9, 1894 to Celesta & Edward F. Pellerin. He enlisted at Aldershot, NS on August 6, 1913. He was single at the time and was 24 years of age. He was with the 6th M.D. 1st Depot Battalion Nova Scotia Regiment. He was a fisherman by trade. After the war and the death of his parents, he moved in with Geneva Pellerin, a neighbor. Phonso lived with her and her family until his death in 1972. He will be remembered and respected for his years of service. Submitted by the Torbay Branch # 117 of The Royal Canadian Legion PELLERIN, Arthur Joseph WWII Arthur was born in Larry’s River, Nova Scotia in 1924 to the late Leo & Victoria (Richard) Pellerin. He was a veteran of the Second World War and served with the Royal Canadian Navy in Newfoundland during that time. Following the war, he worked with the Canadian National Railway and later was self-employed until he retired. He was married to Elizabeth Hiscock and they raised 5 sons and 4 daughters. He was predeceased by his wife and a son. Arthur passed away on April 3, 2005 at the age of 81. He is buried in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville. He will always be remembered and respected for his years of service. Submitted by the Torbay Branch # 117 of The Royal Canadian Legion PELLY, William Henry “Bill” WWII Bill was born in Sunnyville, Guys. Co., Nova Scotia on February 8, 1921 to William & Hattie (Clyke) Pelly. They raised one daughter, Dianne. Bill enlisted with the Canadian Army in 1941 and was with the Heavy Artillery. He saw action in England, North Africa, Italy, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. Some of the medals Bill received for his service include 193945 Star, Italy Star, France/Germany Star, Defence Medal, Voluntary Service Medal and Clasp Canadian Medal as well as the Dutch Medal. He was honourably discharged in 1946. He was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 081 in Guysborough where he served as the Sergeant-at-Arms. November 11th meant a great deal to Bill, as he frequently asked if it was the 11th in the days leading to his passing. He enjoyed fiddle music, but had fondness for wartime songs. Surviving is his wife of 54 years, the former Dorothy (Rice) Pelly. He will always be remembered and respected for his years of service.
