Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 185 SPENCER, Stanley Morton Jr. WWII Stanley was born on July 4, 1916 in Mira, Nova Scotia. He was the son of Zaccheus and Ann (Nicoll) Spencer. He served in the Second World War in the Royal Canadian Army with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. Following the war, he worked in Ontario as a farm hand. Stanley passed away in 1996 and is buried at St. James Cemetery, Ontario. Submitted by the Port Morien Branch # 055 of The Royal Canadian Legion SPONAGLE, Raymond Leroy WWII Raymond was born in Truro, Nova Scotia on Dec. 23, 1922 to Vernon & Laura Faulkner (Casey) Sponagle. He served overseas in the Second World War with the Nova Scotia Highlanders. He worked on the Great Lakes Boats and in construction in Ottawa, ON. He was predeceased by his wife Marion (Warrington) Sponagle on March 19, 2014. Raymond passed away a month later on April 11, 2014. He will be remembered and respected for his years of service. Submitted by the Torbay Branch # 117 of The Royal Canadian Legion STEELE, John Thomas “Jack” WWII Jack was born on August 21, 1917 in New Waterford, Nova Scotia and raised on Scatarie Island. He was the son of John T. and Rosanna (Trimm) Steele. He enlisted in the army in 1941 and served with the Cape Breton Highlanders in France, Belgium and Holland. He received the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal and the Holland Medal. He was married to Evelyn MacPhee, and they lived in Mira Gut for many years. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #055. Jack passed away on July 12, 2005. Submitted by the Port Morien Branch # 055 of The Royal Canadian Legion
