Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 17 AVERY, Callis WWII & KOREA Callis was born in Larry’s River on August 2, 1919 and was the son of the late Peter Avery and Mary Pellerine. He married Catherine Fraser and they resided in Port Hood, NS. and they raised 9 children. Callis was a decorated Merchant Marine, serving in WWII and the Korean War. Callis died January 21, 2011 at the Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Building. He will always be remembered and respected for his years of service. Submitted by the Torbay Branch # 117 of The Royal Canadian Legion AVERY, Cecil WWII Cecil was born in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia to the late Augustus and Catherine Avery with roots in Larry’s River. He joined the Army at 20 years of age with the West Nova Scotia Regiment; R.C.I.C. Cecil was killed in action on September 15, 1944 and is buried in Coriano Ridge War Cemetery, Italy. He will always be remembered and respected for his years of service. Submitted by the Torbay Branch # 117 of The Royal Canadian Legion AVERY, Hubert WWII Hubert was born in Larry’s River on May 23, 1921 to the late Leander and Margaret (Pero) Avery. He served in the Canadian Army in Nova Scotia and in Ontario during the Second World War. Hubert died on August 6, 2005 at the age of 84.
