Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 213 WILSON, Gordon Norman WWII Gordon was born in Port Morien, Nova Scotia on September 11, 1924 to John Thomas and Alice (Fleet) Wilson. He was a private in the Royal Canadian Army, Cape Breton Highlanders from January 1943 to May 3, 1946 and served in France, Italy, and Germany. He married Elizabeth MacQueen of Donkin, NS. After the war, he lived in Sudbury, Ontario. Gordon passed away in 1996. Submitted by the Port Morien Branch # 055 of The Royal Canadian Legion WILSON, James Arthur “Bumps” WWII James was born in 1921 in Port Morien, Nova Scotia. His parents were John Thomas Wilson and Alice (Fleet) Wilson. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army in 1939 and served in Yarmouth and Halifax. He held the rank of private. He was discharged in March 1943 because of rheumatic fever. Never married, James passed away on March 18, 1978. Submitted by the Port Morien Branch # 055 of The Royal Canadian Legion WINTERS, Adam N. WWII Adam was born in Mushaboom, Nova Scotia and was a son of Burton and Effie (Boutilier) Winters. Adam married Helen (Richard) and she was killed in a car accident when she was only in her 30’s. They had 2 daughters and 1 son. Adam had joined the Army. During the war years, there was a heavy explosion aboard a tanker, “Cypress Halls Park”. Heavy gas fumes prevented the rescuers from going below until some of the smoke had cleared. A buddy, Freeman Mercer, was believed to be killed instantly by the blast, was found three hours later; also killed was Adam N. Winters. The blast sent four others to hospital. All were members of the cleaning crew with the Nova Scotia Boiler Chippers & Scalers. The ship was tied up for repairs at the old French Cable Company Wharf, North Dartmouth, N.S.
