Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 55 COCHRANE, Bernard Charles “Bernie” WWII Bernie was born in Port Morien, Nova Scotia on January 16, 1915, the son of Michael and Mary Agnes (Doyle) Cochrane. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on December 29, 1943. Corporal Cochrane was a member of the North Nova Scotia Highlanders until his discharge on May 10, 1946. He served in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe. Among his medals were the France and Germany Star, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, and War Medal (1939-1945). He was married to Eunice Timmons of Port Morien. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch # 055, Port Morien, and served as its bartender until his death. Bernie passed away on July 19, 1962 and is buried in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Black Brook, Port Morien. He served with the Royal Canadian Army in Africa and Italy. He held the Italy Star. Francis married Martha Gallant from Little Lorraine. WWII Frederick was born in 1925 in Sweets Corner, Nova Scotia. He served in Canada with the Army during the Second World War. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal.
