He enlisted in the Canadian Army with the Halifax Rifles in 1940 and served in Canada until being discharged for medical reasons in 1942. Roland passed away at Pictou Landing in 1976. He joined the Canadian Army in 1942 and served in France and Belgium with the South Saskatchewan Regiment. Wounded in Belgium, he was invalided home in January 1945 and resided at Hopewell NS until his death in 1958.
