He enlisted in the Navy and served with the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve as a Shipwright during World War II. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal for his service. WWII Mary was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1924. She joined the U.S. Army in January 1944 and remained until January 1946. She served in the U.S.A. After the war, Mary moved to Canada, married Percy Layte, a World War Two veteran, and lived in Middleton until she passed away in 2002. WWII Percy was born in Lawrencetown, Annapolis County, NS in 1909. He joined the Canadian Army in March 1924, serving in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe. He returned to Canada in 1945 and lived in Middleton until he passed away in 1986.
