He served the Army with the Wet Nova Scotia Regiment in Europe. Joseph was a Life Member of Bear River Branch #022, The Royal Canadian Legion before he passed away on June 27, 2004. Submitted by Bear River Branch #022, The Royal Canadian Legion LEBLANC, Joseph “Joe” WWII Joe was born on March 31, 1916 in Alder Point, Cape Breton, NS. He was the son of Mary Barbara and Alex LeBlanc. In 1942, he joined the Army at the young age of twenty-six to serve with the Royal Canadian Engineers. In 1942, he boarded a train in North Sydney to travel to Halifax, where he boarded the luxury liner, the Queen Elizabeth, which took him overseas to war. During his tours of duty, Joe was assigned to numerous countries, such as England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. His role in the war was to build and re-construct bridges and roads that had been damaged from the war. He also worked as a cook. When the war finally came to an end in 1945, he sailed back to Halifax on the Queen Mary and then again by train to North Sydney. After the war, his family took up residence in North Sydney. He then worked as a coal miner for most of his life, and later moved back to Alder Point, until he passed away in 1989. Submitted Independently. LEIGHTON, Ronald G. WWII Ronald was born in Wentworth Creek, Hants County, Nova Scotia in 1921. He enlisted in the Army and served with the West Nova Scotia Regiment in Canada, England and Italy during World War II. He was awarded the 1939-1945 Star and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. He was a member of the Hants County Branch 009 for eighteen years. Ronald passed away in 2008.
