Before joining the Army in the Spring of 1943, he was a cook in lumber camps. He served with the Artillery Field Regiment as a truck driver on the kitchen truck. On the battlefield, the cook was killed, at which time, Ford took over the job and was then driver and cook. He served in France, Germany and England. Before Ford passed away in 1985, he had been a member of The Legion for twenty-five years. He served the Army with the 2nd Canadian Division. in France during World War One, and also served the Canadian Army Service Corp in Canada and England during World War Two. He was a member of Bear River Branch #022, The Royal Canadian Legion before he passed away on March 14, 1961. He joined the Army and served with the West Nova Scotia Regiment as a Private in Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Holland, Italy and Belgium during World War II. He was awarded the 1939-45 Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. He was a life member of the Hants Co. Branch 009.
